Ukrainian Pavilion
This year, Ukraine's theme is "Ukraine the Breadbasket of Europe". Did you know that Ukraine has 40% of the worlds fertile black soil? That's why it produces so much of the world's wheat. Come visit our pavilion and find out more about this great country.
Our pavilion is hosted by St. Elias Ukrainian Catholic church on Heritage Road in Brampton. Within the church, St. Elias heritage School offers three dance groups: Vatra - the older dancers, Vohnyk - the middle group and Iskra - the youngest students. All three dance groups will be putting on a great performance at Chris Gibson Arena at this year's Carabram which is being held on the weekend of July 11, 12 and 13.
The Ukraine Pavilion has won many awards including best overall pavilion from 2001 - 2004, 3rd best overall in 2005 - 2006 and best overall again last year! When entering the pavilion, you will experience many different aspects of Ukraine including food, dance, history, culture and traditions. One very well- known tradition is the decorated Easter egg or pysanka which is derived from the word "to write". This tradition goes back many thousands of years as a form of celebrating the coming of spring. Each region of Ukraine decorates their eggs in their own distinctive style and meaning. You can create your very own pysanka at our Pysanka Table. You can also have a bookmark made with your name on it in cyrillic writing. Or perhaps create a beaded head wreath pin. There is so much to do and see at our pavilion.
