Bulgarian Pavilion
A country often described to lie at the crossroads linking the East and West. Bulgaria is situated at the heart of the Balkan Peninsula in Europe. It is a country with an ancient history dating back to prehistoric times, Antic worlds, and the powerful medieval Great Bulgaria founded in 632 AD. Bulgaria is Europe’s oldest state that still exists with internationally recognized independence in 635 AD. The country was formed by the amalgamation of two ethnic groups –the Slavs and the Bulgars but a number of ancient civilizations, most notably the Thracian, Hellene, Romans, Byzantine and Ottoman have contributed to the enrichment of its culture. Bulgaria was the center of Slavic Europe during much of the Middle Ages, exerting considerable literary and cultural influence over the Eastern Orthodox Slavic World. The country’s contribution to humanity also continues in the nineteenth and twentieth century. It is not by chance that Bulgaria has nine designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Bulgaria is well-known for its splendid beaches, beautiful mountains and world-famous Rose Valley nested in the center of the country. The Rose Oil produced there still comprise more than a half of the world production and it is with the highest quality. Bulgaria also has very rich folklore, distinctive traditional music, rituals and tales. Many famous artists have been enthralled with the mystery of the Bulgarian voices, traditional music and dances, folklore elements and religious iconography.
We are happy to present some of them at Carabram Festival. Dance troupe IGRANKA will perform the mystic, ancient Thracian mummer’s tradition Koukeri. You will be able to learn some of the steps of our folklore dances, smell the incredible aroma of original rose oil and of course delight in the traditional foods. Bulgarian Cuisine has grown out of wealth of culinary traditions, both local and foreign, combined in a way, which is uniquely Bulgarian; some of the most delicious meals you will ever taste.
Join us in this year edition of Carabram Festival and discover Bulgaria –The Land of Roses!
