Frequently Asked Questions

What is Carabram?

Carabram is a three-day multicultural festival that showcases the cuisine, culture, and entertainment of various ethnic groups that make up our city.

When is Carabram?

Carabram weekend is: Friday, July 11 6 p.m. to 12 a.m.; Saturday, July 12, 1 p.m. to 12 a.m., and Sunday, July 13 1 p.m. to 7 p.m..

Where is Carabram?

14 pavilions are located at various venues across the city. Consult your Carabram passport or the Carabram web site - www.carabram.org - for locations.

How do I get into Carabram, and how much does it cost?

Adults and children over 12 years of age need a “passport” to get into all of our pavilions. One passport, per person is valid for entry into all 14 pavilions. Passports are on sale across the city at the following outlets: Scotia Bank, Shopper’s World Brampton, Bramalea City Centre, Canadian Tire stores, Royal Bank branches, City of Brampton and some recreation centres, some bus terminals, some Sobeys and from pavilion volunteers. If you purchase your passport by July 10 it costs $8.00 and $10.00 at the door over Carabram weekend. Passports are valid for all three days! Children 12 years and under are free when accompanied by an adult.

Do I have to drive my car to each pavilion?

No, not unless you want to! You can enjoy the festival responsibly and help to green our planet by hopping on the free Brampton Transit shuttle buses that will be running to all 14 pavilion locations. You can locate the transit route map in your passport or check out the route on the Carabram web site - www.carabram.org

Carabram is completely run by volunteers who spend months planning and organizing to ensure visitors are treated to an exciting cultural adventure. The food and beverage organizers spend hundreds of hours preparing mouth-watering dishes featuring foods for every palate. This year we have many vegetarian dishes that should be popular with everyone no matter what your food preferences or diet restrictions! Professional entertainment is always a highlight at the pavilions, and cultural displays of artefacts and crafts are lovingly displayed so that neighbour can learn something about neighbour and perhaps come to a new appreciation of the wonderfully diverse and vibrant community that is Brampton.

This year Carabram is extending its usual warm welcome but with a relevant twist - in keeping with the grave environmental challenges facing our planet, Carabram organizers have ensured that recycling bins are located in each pavilion. They urge you to deposit your waste products in the appropriate bins. Many pavilions will be featuring recyclable utensils and dinnerware. And, do make your journey around the world by shuttle bus! It’s free! It’s stress-free! It’s fun!

Pavilion organizers set out to not only impress their guests, but to impress the Carabram judges who visit every pavilion, taste-test food, enjoy unique entertainment, and learn about other cultures before awarding prizes in such categories as: Entertainment, Atmosphere and Décor, Culture, Food, Most Passports Sold, and of course, Best Overall Pavilion. Competition is friendly but intense as each cultural group is extremely anxious to show off its roots.

We look forward to seeing you at Carabram 2008, July 11 – July 13!
